AB 2506 Signed by Governor

Assembly Bill 2506 (Thurmond) was signed into law by Governor Brown last week. The new law restricts the use of Chafee ETV funds at schools that do not meet certain graduation and loan default criteria, a practice in place already for CalGrants. The language that would have made the program an entitlement program was eliminated from the bill, however an additional $3 million was appropriated for the program during the budget process, which will expand the number of foster youth who receive grants by an estimated 1000 additional students.
